FlowElf: 6 Pounder Hotchkiss Gun

6 Pounder Hotchkiss Gun

Called a 6 Pounder due to the weight of the shell it fires, this gun was recovered by diver Brian McAllister when the wreck of the HMS Guide Me II was rediscovered in 1990.

The gun was presented to the museum and lay for many years in the museum yard before being restored with the aid of a grant from Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Of particular Irish interest is that the armed gun boat Helga, which made a name of herself in 1916 was equiped with a similar gun.

Restored by CE Engineering in October 2016
