Welcome to a collection of pictures and tales about the valley of Glencree and its surroundings.
I believe that you only really belong in a landscape when you come to know its secret places over time.
I'd like to acknowledge all the generous locals that made me welcome and started me on this journey when I first moved in two decades ago, including Derek and my friends in the Enniskerry Walking Association.
The photo is a view south towards Knockree and Maulin from Crone Wood. The going is easy in most of the forestry lower down. However higher up, there is plenty of bog that can be soggy and sometimes wobbles as you walk across it. This is where Glencree's name comes from: "Gleann Crí" or originally "Gleann Criothach"- the valley of the Shaking Bog.
